When FreedaSol tells you it is her funkiest mix yet, it is gonna be fun.  Right out of the gate the tracks are modern funk with elements plucked from dance music history.  Once the vibe is ignited there is no time wasted to push on through a number of styles; yes its even got soul.  The vocals come and go in full presentation and snippets giving the set plenty of voice.  Classic and fresh vibes all the way.

Electronic music when mixed well, can transcend time.  For more than thirty minutes the mix delivers audio with deep and sublime changes through an organic style.  Once the scene is entirely separated from reality, a sweet drift gives way to more bubbling basslines and colorful sounds.  One foot on the gas and another on his paintbrush, Scott drives the mix almost endlessly in a progressive house train of high-q style.  Scott's artful dagger makes an unmistakable point; 120 minutes feels like one.

Orlando music culture continues to grow and inspire.  Sean Samaroo's live sets at Monkey Bar represent a great mix of what is de facto fun in the Florida house music scene.  He has keen ear to keep the sound open and housey early with some funky vibes.  Later he moves deftly through a few styles to more banging progressive.  As the night unfolds, he transitions those genres with bridges of style and consideration.  We used to call these "journeys by DJs"; time to get up.

Like the birth of a slow and beautiful sunrise across open lands, the mix takes a full 13 minutes to draw you in.  Next, that first dose of dance is anything but tranquil.  The acidy synths only add to the high as the tracks dive immediately underground.  Dante is known for the most diverse sets on our podcast and yet he still lays down a tribal throughline from beginning to end.  The music surprises inside are one earbomb after another for 2 hours.  There are slices between big dance tracks where you can catch your breath, but those selections too come with an intensity and passion for electronic rhythms like only Dante can do.

John Kiser storms back onto the podcast this week making up for lost time in big party way.  The intro is long and emotional and really clears the air for the music to come.  With the background noise of the day purged, the mix moves along into basslines and hooks that spin rhythms with harmonious centrifugal force.  A tremendous variety of sounds take the atmosphere deep underground with plenty of audible visuals along the way.  No tiny dancer here, it's got the moves.  Additional CUE and audio files below.

Our hearts go out to everyone suffering through the earthquakes.

Music selection and arrangement works hard to break your concentration from the traditional duality of the mind.  And dance music in particular can elevate that function to higher level.  Chris has never been shy on this wide array of sounds.  He moves back and forth from techno to organic and still offering up drum-tracks underneath which are at home in either soundscape.  This mix brings a polish to the cherries of tracks in his bag and manages a shine across them all which borders on sublime if not downright trance.  To describe Chris's mix with anything less, is to miss real effort and passion woven into one single motion of time.

2023 arrives for Eartheater in a mix with global soul and an organic ear to the ground.  "Scotts New Year's set is sounding smooth like butter pecan with extra brown sugar on top." - David Martin about a live mix Scott recently published.  But that only scratches the surface of this new multi-ethnic, multi-level, and pan-emotional vibe knit together in one mix.  Scott has paired beats and atmospheres to vocals so that the haunting haunts and the loving loves in the air around you.  Not enough to call it a journey, his podcast this week conveys emotions over time in a most captivating and cohesive way.  Lift yourself up.

Fresh from Italy, Dante comes in this week with a disco style which makes the continent sing.  Europe and the UK really perfected this sound in the decades that followed disco in the US.  Hip basslines and well-placed vocal snippets bring a lightness of heart and mood.  The set makes great use of real instruments sounds while keeping the energy upfront.  There is a nice, expansive lull half way through then energy returns briefly until the DJ walks us gracefully to some funky house at the close.

We like all kinds of music for our podcasts.  And we like that music endlessly and without seams.  That specific effort provides a baseline for atmosphere and conveyance of emotion.  Scott Riley comes full circle and provides a moving and driving recapitulation of all things dance floor in our current podcast this week.  He has been on a personal quest to tie up his personal devotion to the timeless hold of progressive music and the newest school of organic house music.  Thoughtful, well-placed energy that puts Cercle sets on notice.

We get back into a deep vibe with the latest in out Subset routine.  Dante dreams a little dream with his most ethereal downtempo set to date.  Within these walls the DJ has built are serene lofts, and an expansive, lounge view.  The pads are long and emotional with a peculiar and consistent draw that weaves your mind back and forth into the mix.  It is a great vibe and one that will keep you from getting things done.  This set also sees highlights of producers who have come into their own.  Stefano, Gino, and Daniel are front and center pushing confidently into our minds and hearts.

Mark brings a show-reel style mix this week with fresh new releases in many genres.  Positively funky blends at 12 minutes then blends again into ethereal electro and a healthy dose of acid along the way.  It’s always amazing to hear producers working with elements of old an new to create space for your dance ambitions.  But Mark pulls back from the overproduction found in much electronic music today and exposes pure dance expressions around the one-hour mark.  All-in, it is a great way to spend some time.

Scorcher of a set this week as Scott moves focus back to progressive with a dose of breaks, in style.  And honestly, I can't imagine that he left much to pick through at Beatport.  Track after track the progression builds and lays out open, harbors full of energy and life.  The waves are just that good.  The thing sets off with ambitious emotion in a relentless pull across a huge variety of heart strings.

This is a culmination of a few gems that were sitting in my playlist for months now begging to be played. When articulating the inspiration for this set, just imagine finally arriving at that long-awaited getaway, nestled in a remote coastal jungle hidden far beyond the realms of expectations. You enter this elusive oasis filled with the intoxication of muses singing, birds joyous, rhythms rampant, chimes, bells, drums, lows & highs fill the atmosphere with adventure, beauty, wonder, & maybe a few unexpected, yet welcoming surprises. The energy is a contagious harmony between humans & nature with animal instincts naturally peeling back that which no longer serves us…until you can reach the release the heart & soul have long been craving for...
